SIGN-UPS FOR BAJA HA-HA XXXI
START TWO MONTHS FROM TODAY
As you might know, the Ha-Ha is the 750-mile cruisers' rally from San Diego to Cabo San Lucas, with R&R stops at funky Turtle Bay and surreal Bahia Santa Maria.
There are eight big social events in all, starting with the Last Cheeseburger in Paradise and Costume Kick-Off Party at the West Marine parking lot in San Diego on November 2.
Boats should be 27 feet or longer that were designed, built, and have been maintained for open water sailing. That said, typical Ha-Ha conditions are light to moderate winds from the north/northwest. There is no upwind sailing in the Ha-Ha.
If you've heard about the Ha-Ha but aren't sure whether to do one or not, the Poobah suggests that you talk to someone who has done one. They are a blast. Over 100 boats do the Ha-Ha each year.
And, the Ha-Ha is kid friendly. Each year, there are about 20 kids under 16.
Sign-ups start at noon on May 9. Mark your calendar.
Here's to hoping you'll sail south with the Poobah on his 30th Ha-Ha.

Imagine sailing with 120 boats halfway down the coast of Baja California.

as the wind is almost always from aft and not too strong.
|

Kids flip over sailing in company with other 'kid boats',
as well as during the Kid's Diving Olympics.

Sunsets are often spectacular along the Baja coast.

Fishing on the Ha-Ha? You bet!
|

There is sea life everywhere along the Baja coast. Whales are best kept at a distance.
|

Bahia Santa Maria, one of the Poobah's all-time favorite anchorages.
There is room for 1,000 boats with excellent protection.

While on the Ha-Ha you can learn from the mistakes of others —
such as not anchoring in the surfline.
